THERE ARE TONS of great songs last year that I missed out on and I feel so left out. I do have a few reasons but I don’t want to explain right now. I did hear some of these songs on TV or on someone's phone on loudspeaker. But I didn’t intrigue myself into fully grasping some of the songs and taking much time to listen to them. So for me to absolve myself from that guilt here are my confessions.
#1 I Should’ve Known That Aloe Blacc Is the Man
“The Man” – Aloe Blacc | Before, he used to say to everybody that he needs a dollar. Now, he’s saying we can tell everybody that he is ‘The Man’. I don’t know about Aloe Blacc but he likes telling stuff to everybody about himself. |
#2 I Could’ve Had the Best Day of My Life If Only I Knew What Band Sang That Song
“Best Day of My Life” – American Authors | I did hear this song last year. I think it was on a TV commercial or something. I hope that even if I feel like I’m having a bad day, I could still say that that day is still the best day of my life. I think these guys have too much endorphin in their system. |
#3 I Would’ve Wished I Were a Kid because That’s Cool
Echosmith-Cool Kids from GUS BLACK on Vimeo. “Cool Kids” – Echosmith | Playful and nostalgic in a sort-of-coming-of-age repression, “Cool Kids” makes you want to do that funky, awkward dance-move that all your friends will never forget. Ever. If you had the worst puberty, don’t listen to this song and feel miserable about yourself and be remorseful of how different you could’ve spent your life as a teenager right after. |
#4 I Should’ve Listened to EMA about this Blonde Boy (and Girl) She Was Singing About
“So Blonde” – EMA | Psychedelic like My Bloody Valentine, EMA must really have the reasons to feel high. Well, I just don’t know who these blonde people EMA is talking about in the choruses but one thing I’m sure, they’re blonde. So blonde. |
#5 I Should’ve Blamed Everything on George Ezra
“Blame It on Me” – George Ezra | Well, not for everything but he claims that he’s the one to blame for all his eccentricity like dancing alone in the sun and losing control. He goes acting like Akon but unlike the rapper, he sure is joyful about it. |
#6 There Was No Other Way I Could’ve Found You But through Huffington Post. Watcha Think?
The Internet - Dontcha from Lacey Duke on Vimeo. “Dontcha” – The Internet | Funky, party-like yet easygoing. Like the kind of music I want to listen to when cooking and I have a glass of wine in my hand spilling over the food because this song is truly a nice jam. |
#7 I Should’ve Gone with the Kongos Wherever They Wanted to Take Me
KONGOS - Come With Me Now from Müziği Keşfet on Vimeo. “Come with Me Now” – KONGOS | If you are likely to be drawn to revolt, then this song is your invitation. It is filled with passion and urge. I have heard of this song some time in 2014 but I just don’t know when and how. So when you hear this song, you might probably go wherever the KONGOS want you to go. |
#8 I Ought to Develop a Habit to Listen to This Song
“Habit” – Ought | Tove Lo was another habit last year, like a more junkie kind of habit. But this song from this Canadian rock band is what you ought to listen to. There are songs that try to define words that almost don’t pass lexical standards but this one hits the mark. I tried to look for an official music video but all I could find was this weird fan adaptation. |
#9 I Should’ve Thought of Learning to Play the Ukulele Sooner So I Could Play This Song and Sing to It But I Don’t Have a Ukulele Nor Find It Useful to Buy One Since I’m Not Even the Best Player on Guitar
Vance Joy - Riptide from Dimitri Basil on Vimeo. “Riptide” – Vance Joy | I’ve heard of this guy from a friend but that friend wasn’t really enthused to tell me about why the song was even likable. As a result, I gave it a snub and I ended up listening to Vance Joy this year in a cool, tropical and not-so-summery January. But it’s never too late. My friends and I are planning to go swimming next month so this is perfect for our joyride playlist. |
#10 I Could’ve Gotten Tired Hearing, ‘She’s Got a Boyfriend Anyway’ for More Than a Zillion Times
The 1975 - SEX from Adam Powell on Vimeo. “Sex” – The 1975 | That hyped up rhythm of the drums somehow tells that it isn’t as pleasurable as what the title denotes. Since she's got a boyfriend anyway, dejection and a hint of resentment are interspersed throughout the song. Nevertheless, it is catchy and worthy to bob your head to. |
What other songs didn’t you hear last year that you just heard this month or even just a moment ago after listening to the songs in this post? Give this post a comment. You can even share some 2014 songs that you loved last year that you think a lot of your friends probably haven't heard yet. #
